The Christmas Debate

In thinking about the popular Christmas debate I was reminded of the origins of Christmas... which I believe are more pagan than christian. In fact, if I remember correctly, Christmas has it's origin in a pagan "Winter Solstice" festival and Christ's birth was not celebrated as part of Christmas until nearly 2 centuries after his birth. Why are we (Christians) making such a big deal about the secularization of something with pagan origins?
